I am from a small costal town of Oamaru, with a population of approximately 14,000 in the South Island of New Zealand. I began playing rugby in New Zealand at the age of 13, which was quite old compared to most Kiwi kids. I had played a variety of other sports prior to picking up the game of rugby.
I came to really enjoy rugby and it has become a passion that has created a way of living for me. It has taken me around the world as a player and a coach. I have played in Italy, Ireland, Scotland, Australia, America, and most recently Sweden. I have played every position in the backline and can also goal kick.
I have represented my province of North Otago, where I made my 1st class rugby debut while I was still in high school. I played over 50 matches and was a member of the Heartland Championship winning team in 2007. I have also had national competition level experience in 7-aside rugby and worked as a junior rugby facilitator for North Otago.
I attended the University of Otago from 1995 to 1998 and obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree in marketing and economics. I played a number of games for the University A side which has been the greatest producer of All Blacks players at the club level. I then went overseas and continued to play and experience different cultures through the opportunities that are created from playing rugby. I look forward to sharing my rugby knowledge and experiences in Grande Prairie.
Sirens Coach -
Joe Alaimoana
Joe Alaimoana crossed the sea back in 1999 as a player coach and lead the team to a provincial title in 2000. This past year he took over for a hastily departed J. Berry and picked up a team reeling from the loss, guiding them to another provincial title and winning the Edmonton Rugby Unions Coach of the Year Award! Congratulations Joe!
Joe is also taking over the coaching duties for the Sirens and the Centaurs new coach ‘Gus’ will be arriving in late march. Look for a Meet the coach/Beer Tasting/Silent Auction at the Crown on April 18!
