The purpose of the School Touch Rugby Program is to have students in Yangon play either Tag, Touch or Rippa (non-contact) rugby in a safe and fun but competitive environment based on the core values of rugby:
These values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship are what make the game special for those who enjoy the environment and culture they create. Tag/Rippa Rugby rules
We aim to structure the program in such a manner that we will have 2 tournaments per year where school teams will test their skills against other teams and have a run at either the cup, plate or bowl of that tournament in their age class. A tournament will be organized at the end of every quarter, in line with the Centaurs Rugby Rangoon end of term activities where we aim to create a festival atmosphere where both participants and visitors will enjoy the day.
As we are fully aware that not all schools have equal knowledge or capabilities about tag/touch/rippa rugby we want to help participating schools by arranging the following.
Centaurs Rugby Rangoon will be in charge of the organization of the tournament and will provide referees as well as a location + additional entertainment. We can arrange three 1 hour coaching sessions at a school facility and we will arrange an open weekly Saturday training for all participating students from 7:30 am to 8:30 am
About Centaurs Rugby Rangoon
Championing World Rugby’s values of integrity, passion, solidarity, discipline and respect, our club embraces the ethos of “Rugby for All”.
How it started:
The main reason I started organizing rugby was the fact I saw my kids getting less and less active due to homeschooling and that their eagerness for social interaction grew. As we played rugby when we lived in Singapore and being a coach of my son I decided it was time to start organizing rugby for kids as there was hardly any option for the kids to get together and just be active.
As a young rugby club we have come to an agreement with Centaurs Rugby Singapore to support us and help us with the various areas we need to look at, especially with regard to best training, teaching and coaching practices. Furthermore, I am working together with Sudamericana, as well as icoachkids and their online learning, an EU initiative to improve the coaching abilities of the parents and some local players that want to become coaches.
“An Inspired Child is an Inspirational Child.”

The Centaurs Rugby Rangoon’s mission is to nurture and enrich the lives of children and adults by developing their physical, mental and life skills through involvement in sports, team-building and leadership training programmes.
RUGBY PATHWAY
Our Mini-Rugby Development Pathway follows those tried and tested by unions around the world. It introduces 5 to 12-year-olds to the skills and technical aspects of Rugby Union in a graduated environment. Centaurs ensure the child’s development and progression to the 15-a-side game (at U13s) is smooth and safe.
Centaurs Rugby Rangoon is inclusive
At Centaurs Rugby Rangoon we aim to be an inclusive club.
To make this happen we are offering rugby parents, rugby-loving individuals and any rugby-loving organizations a chance to become a sponsor of one or more local players in Yangon and let them play rugby, by providing for:
- Club membership
- Weekly transportation
- Sports health insurance
- Full club kit (jersey, shorts, socks, shoes)
- Paying for social events
We are training local players to become rugby trainers in order for them to get an income as level one rugby coaches to promote rugby at local schools and orphanages in order to promote rugby amongst local kids, youth and adults. ( All profits made will be used to offer more local kids the possibility to learn to play rugby and connect with our members)
