Training in Action

Here’s a brief description of what a (touch) rugby training session looks like.

Description: The touch rugby training session is designed to build on the foundational skills and introduce more advanced concepts of the sport. The session will be structured as follows:

  • Warm-up and Dynamic Drills (15 minutes):
    • Incorporate dynamic warm-up exercises to elevate heart rate and prepare joints for activity.
    • Include agility drills and plyometric exercises for increased explosiveness.
  • Skill Refinement and Strategy (40 minutes):
    • Review and refine passing, evasion, and defensive skills.
    • Introduce strategies for effective team communication, positioning, and game awareness.
  • Modified Games (25 minutes):
    • Play touch rugby games with modified rules to encourage strategic thinking and decision-making.
    • Emphasize teamwork, spatial awareness, and quick decision-making.
  • Scrimmage and Application (20 minutes):
    • Organize a full scrimmage to simulate a match-like scenario.
    • Allow players to apply their skills and strategies in a more competitive setting.
  • Cool Down, Stretching, and Discussion (10 minutes):
    • Engage in a thorough cool-down routine to lower heart rate and prevent injury.
    • Discuss the importance of sportsmanship, leadership, and continuous improvement.

Sessions will be led by experienced coaches who prioritize safety, skill development, and enjoyment. The goal is to provide students with a positive touch rugby experience that fosters physical fitness, sportsmanship, and camaraderie within their respective age groups.
